The People’s International Observers’ Mission (PIOM) 2010 is a network of distinguished individuals coming from all over the world that will observe and document the May 10 synchronized and automated national and local elections.
Organizing the PIOM 2010 are initiators of the PIOM 2007 and the People’s Movement for Change (Pagbabago or “change”). Pagbabago is a network of concerned individuals and groups which will act as a people’s watchdog and work for comprehensive social and political reforms.
Participants in the PIOM 2007 came from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Myanmar, Norway, Scotland, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United States. The report of the 2007 international observers was published in the book, One Person, One Vote?
The PIOM 2010 will, among other tasks, observe the conduct of the automated election system; interview voters, candidates, and political parties; document cases of fraud, disorder, and election-related violence; document the implementation of the AES using a scorecard developed by civil society groups; and hold dialogs with election and military officials.
Members of the mission will farm out to several regions across the country.
